Cal Band:  A discussion was held on whether to hold a Cal Straw hat
Band event this year. Mary reported  Bob Calonico has reluctantly
agreed to come, but is really concerned about getting the band back
to Berkeley after a long trip.  The board decided to let them off the
hook this year.  Mary will notify Bob.

Student Reception.   The  student party was a big success.  Nine
freshmen, and one junior attended.
A few of them swam in the pool, but most of the time was spent
getting acquainted.  We will do it again next year and include this
year’s class.
We would like to have board members ‘adopt’ a freshman/  Mary,
Sue and Larry will research addresses, so we can sent them cards and
treats.

  Notes from Leadership Meeting.
      Scholarships
Dick attended the CAA meeting in Berkeley.  CAA gives three kinds
of scholarships; Achievement Award, Leadership, and Equity.  We give
the Leadership  Scholarship.  Our endowment is held by CAA.
Vera, Ron and Jeff met to create a proposal for a Northern
C’s scholarship to be awarded to a Shasta college Student
transferring to Berkeley as a Junior.  Larry suggested that  it also
be made available to sophomores.  It will not include students for
College of the Siskiyous at this time.
The scholarship will be published and awarded through the Financial
Aid program at Shasta College.
MOTION:  It was moved seconded and approved that Northern C’s
set up a $1000. scholarship  to be awarded to a selected candidate
from Shasta College upon acceptance to, and enrollment at CAL.
The board instructed Vera, Jeff and Ron to set this up with Shasta
College.
Dick said the CAA had indicated that they approve of this and
may even help.
      Speakers
CAA has trouble getting speakers.  We should arrange for our own.
      Other Clubs
Other clubs are facing similar issues.  We are in pretty good shape.
       Web Page
The CAA web page is hard to navigate.  They will post our
information, but one will need a password to access it.  Mary
volunteered to make sure our information is posted, but we have to
tell her what we want on it. She will also help with our Shasta.com
site.

Speaker from Bear Treks   K.J. is problematic. No other discussion

College Recruitment Chris S. will do the on-line training at COS .
Sue will contact Buffy Tanner at College Options and Jan Erikson at
the Library to find out about College Options.

Financial Status  The Northern C’s endowment was at 46,522 on
3/31/09.  The board believed it was around $90.000.  Dick will get an
update from Ron. Our event funding is available.  Dick will check
with Ron for 2009 Riverview receipts and perhaps we can be
reimbursed.  We need to check to make sure we have CAA funding for
the 2010 dinner.
We have used $175.  of our mailing allowance.
Coming Events    TV football game parties for away games including
Big Game. ( Sect.'s note: who is setting  this up?)
